In 2015 Andreas Schillinger (Bora-Argon 18) delivered a number of top results, such as a third place at Rund um Köln, fifth in the road race at the German Championships and 16th at Paris-Roubaix. Apart from a ninth place at the Rad am Ring, the German came away from the past season empty-handed, but Schillinger was satisfied with his performance.
"Overall things were going well. It was a solid season in which I could do my job for the team, but unfortunately there were no such opportunities as in the 2015 Rund um Köln Cologne this year," the 33-year-old told Radsport-news.com.
The veteran, who was a reliable domestique, was particularly unlucky at Paris-Roubaix where he had a mechanical in the decisive phase, never returned to the front and had to settle for 54th place. "Apart from that, there were no big ups or downs," said Schillinger, who has been part of the Bora team for six years and will be riding for Ralph Denk's team in 2017.
His seventh year at Bora-hansgrohe won’t be missed opportunity. "Next year, I would like to focus on the classics again. What comes later will be discussed in the next few eeks, but the focus is on spring," says Schillinger who expects to get fewer personal opportunities in light of spectacular signings like World Champion Peter Sagan,
"Next year will be completely different. The approach to racing will change. Almost all the roles in the team will change, and for me personally there will probably be no such opportunities as in the last two years in Roubaix. The success of the team is important," emphasized Schillinger, who will be particularly active in the spring classics for top star Sagan.
