Tobias Ludvigsson once again showed his capabilities with a 9th place at the individual time trial in the Giro d’Italia. Also Chad Haga did a strong performance by finishing 19th, as Kiryienka was the winner of the day.
It was a demanding individual time trial of 59.4km through the vineyards of Prosecco. The first 30km were on flat, wide, straight roads. The final 29.4km were very demanding, with a 3km categorised climb at 7%, and then rolling roads through the hills.
Ludvigsson once again showed his capabilities by finishing 9th in today’s ranking, as Haga took a strong 19th place. Vasil Kiryienka (Team Sky) won the time trial by riding 1’27” faster than Ludvigsson, hitting an average pace of almost 46 km/h.
After this time trial Ludvigsson said: “I am happy with my performance and it is great to finish in the top-10 in a Grand Tour time trial. The staff did a good job in analyzing the course and planning my efforts, which worked out very well. Also, I had great coaching support by Marc from the car behind me."
Coach Marc Reef added: “We went for good results with Chad and Tobias today. Our specialists made a pacing-schedule, which allowed our riders to build up the race really well.
“In the first 30km both Tobias and Chad lost time, but in the second half they regained a lot of time at the hilly section to finish at 9th and 19th respectively. We are very satisfied with these results.”
