The 17.3km individual time trial rounds up the Tour de Romandie. Tobias Ludvigsson was the fastest for Team Giant-Alpecin at 25th, while German specialist Tony Martin (Etixx-Quick Step) took the win in Stage 6. Coming in second-handily Simon Spilak rounded of the podium together with team-mate Ilnur Zakarin.
With 230 altimeters it was not an easy time trial. Ludvigsson continued his steady performance after his injury comeback to finish 25th. Chad Haga is the team’s first in the General Classification finishing 67th after a 47th in the time trial today, shortly followed by Carter Jones at 68th and Ludvigsson at 70th.
The leading position of Russian Ilnur Zakarin (Team Katusha) was not threatened at the time trial as he finished in a strong third place to win the Swiss stage race. Former winner Simon Spilak finished second as former Tour winner Christopher Froome obtained 3rd.
After his time trial Tobias Ludvigsson told the Giant-Alpecin website:
“Beforehand I knew that I couldn’t play for the win today so I didn’t take any unnecessary risk on the wet roads. On the straight sections I rode hard and my legs felt good. With this feeling I am looking forward to the next week’s Giro d’Italia.”
