In a difficult version of Vuelta a Andalucia, Caja Rural Seguros RGA's new signee Luis Leon Sanchez hung on to a third place in GC. The Spaniard, and the team as a whole, sees the result as a excellent showing.
Sanchez was really competitive in Andalucia, taking a second place in a mountain top finish in stage 2, alongside the GC podium, which may be seen as a surprise result by many. Sanchez admits, "We are quite happy because we have finished the race better than we started it. Those who placed above me are really better than me." Amongst them there were race winner Alejandro Valverde, "Alejandro has been very superior, Movistar has also controlled the race well." says Sanchez.
Sanchez also thanks his team for their effort. "The team worked very well and has always been part of the race. I appreciate the work of my colleagues throughout the week and I must highlight the good atmosphere inside the whole team."
Aside from Sanchez's excellent showing in Spain, tour de l'Avenir winner Ruben Fernandez also performed well across the border in Algarve. Fernandez finished 6th overall there.
