Team Katusha's Tiago Machado finished 2nd at the National TT Championships in Braga, Portugal. After 36 kilometers he missed just 4 seconds to take his second pro title. Winner was Nelson Oliveira (Lampre-Merida). Third place was for José Mendes (Bora - Argon 18), 47 seconds behind the winner.
"I was really keen on winning the title but unfortunately I missed 4 seconds. It is like that. It was difficult during the race as we had no idea of intermediate times of the competitors, but the result is ok. So again a silver medal, just as in 2008. This is just my 3rd national TT championships. In 2009 I won, so every time on the podium in the pro category is not so bad. Now I will recover a bit for the road race. I have no teammates there but also in the last years that was the case and I finished twice on the podium as well," said Tiago Machado.
