Yesterday David Boucher announced that his FDJ team had taken him out of the Eneco Tour after he had been on the attack twice despite being asked to stay with team captain Arnaud Demare. Today manager Marc Madiot has responded to the Belgian who won't be part of the team in 2016.
"Earlier this week I told David that we would not propose him a contract extension and that he would therefore not be part of the team in 2016," Madiot said. "I am still free to decide if I wasnt to keep him or not. Nevertheless, any rider is paid to do his work and follow the instructions. That must be respected during the races and between the races.
"He escaped last Monday and sports director Martial Gayanttold him that it was not his job. I called them on Tuesday morning during the briefing to remind everyone of the rules. Today, contrary to what had been requested, David was on the attack again. Martial told him "You sit up and you go home tonight." He replied "no problem". So yes, no problem! He did not respect the life of the group and has contributed to a bad atmosphere.
"I said that he is bound by a duty of confidentiality in his communication. He said he was supported throughout the day by team managers and riders in the peloton. I'm happy for him as he should have no trouble finding a job then.
"More generally, he should remember that Arnaud Démare has won him a lot of money and so he has to honour his leader and the internal rules of the team."
