Rafał Majka has skipped the World Championships in Qatar for two reasons. First of all, the route in Doha, does not match to his climbing abilities. Secondly, he has had a long and demanding season. The Polish champion is already thinking about the new year whichhe will spend in the jersey of the German team Bora-hansgrohe.

The king of the mountains at the Tour de France can look back on a successful year. At the Giro d'Italia, he finished fifth and in the Olympic road race, he won the bronze medal.

"When I was a child, I dreamed of an Olympic medal and an overall victory in a Grand Tour. Until now I have realized 50 percent of my dreams. Now I have to work hard to meet the other 50 percent," Majka told Polish Press Agency (PAP).

As things stand now, Majka will do the Giro and the Vuelta and skip Tour de France in 2017. His chances of to go for the overall win in the Giro or the Vuelta a Espana are better than in France. In 2015, Majka was third in the Vuelta.

"My race schedule has not been fully determined, but everything indicates that I'm going to show myself in in Italy and Spain," he confirmed. After five years, Majka leaves Tinkoff. At Bora-hansgrohe, he wants to celebrate another great success.

"There are many changes in Team Bora. The team is reinventing itself. It is difficult to say whether I am now in the team with which I can win a Grand Tour. I do know that I will be one of the captains. I got a lot of offers. Financial issues played no role for me. For me it was just about getting the chance to be captain,” Majka said about his move to Germany.
