Rafał Majka of Tinkoff-Saxo experienced an extremely unfortunate appearance in the Paris-Nice this year as a badly timed mechanical at the bottom of the final climb dropped him out of contention, what was followed by having been involved into a crash in the hectic finale of the ultimate stage. However, the young Pole reported yesterday that despite some minor injuries he will line up a the start of the star-studded Volta a Catalunya next week.
Despite the route working not exactly in his favour since the 24-year old Tinkoff-Saxo rider needs more demanding climbs to show off his real potential, Majka certainly hoped for more than 31st place overall and 9th in young riders classification when he lined up at the start of the Paris-Nice 2014 edition as an appointed leader of the Danish team. It wasn’t to happen, however, after the highly unfortunate mechanical spoiled all his dreams about excelling in the general classification and his bad luck was just emphasized by the crash in the finale o the last stage.
Fortunately, the 24-year old Pole managed to finish the race with only typical bruises and abrasions revealed following the medical check-up and is ready to resume trainings before his participation in the Volta a Catalunya from March 24th.
"After Sunday's crash I had one day of rest, during which I had a medical consultation. It's Not bad! My elbow hurts a little (especially when driving on asphalt with holes), but does not interfere with training. I'm glad that not a bone is broken. I experienced only bruises and abrasions, though painful. My start in the Volta a Catalunya (24-30.03) it is not in danger then!,” Rafał Majka wrote.
Majka has already hinted that his form was noticeably increasing throughout the week of racing in France with very positive sensations on the last day of competition, what suggests that the young Pole can serve as a huge support to Alberto Contador during his highly anticipated first encounter of the season with Christopher Froome (Team Sky) in Catalunya.
