Adriano Malori (Lampre-Merida) came agonizingly close to winning the individual time trial on the last stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico. At the end of the day he was 2nd, barely 6” slower than world time trial champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step).

Afterwards Malori expressed a mixture of emotions as he reflected on his performance in the race against the clock, “I really hoped to win, because I rode an outstanding time trial, but Martin is so strong,” Malori commented. “I had the best timing at the first intermediate, but then Martin recovered. It was my second seasonal time trial, after the 5th place in Argentina: I'm more and more aware that my good condition will allow me to compete against the best specialists.”
