According to the Movistar Team’s official twitter account, the in-form time trial specialist Adriano Malori will not participate in Milano-Sanremo coming this Sunday and will be replaced by experienced Polish domestique Sylwester Szmyd in the roster of the Spanish outfit.
Malori caused a major upset when he has beaten more renowned favorites in the likes of Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing), Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) or Tony Martin (Omega Pharm-Quick Step) in the individual time trial concluding the Tirreno-Adriatico last Tuesday.
However, the in-form 26-year old Italian will not participate in season’s first monument, what provided 36-year old Szmyd with an opportunity to debut in La Primavera before his career comes to an end.
“After so many years I fanally received an opportunity to participate in La Classicissima. For me this is one of the most exciting races of the season, this time from the inside. Malori suffers some health problems and I was just informed that I will race,” Szmyd said on his official website.
“I’m even more pleased because it would serve as a good training since I’m still missing racing kilometers. I won’t ride in Catalunya so it’s one more racing day on my account.”
