Adriano Malori (Movistar) again proved that he is one of the very best time triallists in the world when he won today's Italian TT championships in commanding fashion. In fact, the course was a hilly one that didn't suit a power rider Malori who used his power meter to gauge his effort.

After many months preparing himself for the goal, Adriano Malori proved again his excellent quality as a time triallist with a sensational victory in the Italian ITT championship, held on Sunday over 40km of demanding roads - several climbs included in the first half of the route - from Malè, where Giovanni Visconti got a fine 4th place in Saturday's road race, to Taiò.

All doubts for the Parma-based Movistar Team rider were solved in the first intermediate check, where Malori beat nearest rival Dario Cataldo by 1'04", a gap he managed perfectly in the second half - 1'10" with the Team Sky rider, almost 3' to Alan Marangoni (CAN) - to secure his second maglia tricolore as pro after the one he got in 2011, the first for a rider from the telephone squad while being part of the team and Malori's13th success since he took the leap towards pro racing.

"I'm really happy that I won - it was one of my main goals of the season," he said. "The route wasn't one that really suited me, but I think I made a nice effort. I told my sports director, José Luis Laguía, after the end of the race: 'Do you see now you didn't waste your time by coming here from Spain?'

"Luckily, we didn't have the bad weather that was forecast and everything went like we expected. I didn't go full gas over the first half of the race, because since this year, I have learnt to use the power meter in time trials, and I'm getting better at managing my energy and wattage over the course.

"I'm really happy, willing to take some rest after a demanding first half of the season. I'll spend a week on holiday and I'lll try to enjoy and come back for more. I must thank many people who helped me on the way up to this; the Movistar Team, who is making me grow up as a rider as I wanted; those who always believed in me, and most especially, my girlfriend Elisa and Mirko Rossato, for the long training sessions they guided me in to get ready for this championship."
