According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, Manolo Saiz, who was sporting director of the ONCE Team (later Liberty Seguros and Astana Würth) between 1989 and 2006, returns to cycling as head of the sports sector in the Basque U23 Team : Baqué-Campos. He will work alongside David Extebarria, a former professional rider. He was formed in this U23 club which has also developed many talents as Joseba Beloki and Iban Mayo.
Saiz was arrested along with Doctor Eufemanio Fuentes in 2006 as part of Puerto Case before being cleared in 2013.
This news comes just days after the announcement of the return of another major figure in the cycling 1990s, Bruno Roussel. The former sports director of the Festina team, was convicted in 2000 in the doping case of the same name, has supervised the Mexican selection at the recent World Championships.
