During the morning briefing, the target was clear. The FDJ team would focus onLorrenzo Manzin in the bunch sprint at the end of stage 5 of the Vuelta a Espana but the finishing straight was steeper than expected.
Four hours later, the neo-pro thanked his teammates who did a great job with him and realized what work he has to do to reach his dreams.
"This is a very useful day because tonight Lorrenzo will have a game plan. All day, his teammates were perfect, they have placed him in the best conditions. He had trouble in the finale where he missed some strength but it is important not to forget that he is in a Grand Tour. It is very fast, the pace is constant. Perhaps the pressure has cost him energy but tonight he will be wiser. He knows where he has to work and progress to one day win in a race like this," sports director Franck Pineau said.
"The next two days will be a very different scenario. We will ride differently. I will also make sure to take care of my two youngsters, Olivier Le Gac and Lorrenzo."
