Team Southeast was again protagonists in the 7th stage of Tour of Hainan with Jakub Mareczko who was able to take a good second place behind the German sprinter Timo Thomel.
The silvered jerseys worked hard all day to chase the breakaway group and then to bring the 21-year-old sprinter to the front to show his power at the final sprint where he was overtaken in the last metres.
Before the hardest stage Mareczko is third in the general classification, only 17” behind Sacha Modolo
“My team mates worked hard in the chase and in the final we didn’t have enough men to set up the sprint. Dal Col left me with 500 metres to go and unfortunately I couldn’t repeat the result of yesterday. I was exposed to the wind too early and in the end Thomel overtook me," he said.
“There was a head wind and I launched too early. There’s one sprint left [possibly on stage 9] to make it up.”
