Reigning world time trial champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) is the widely tipped favourite to take his third consecutive victory in the Chrono des Nations on Sunday as the European road cycling season comes to an end.

National time trial champions in Italy and France, respectively, Marco Pinotti (BMC) and Martin’s OPQS team mate Sylvain Chavanel will be looking to disrupt Martin’s series of wins in the competition. The race will mark the occasion on which Chavanel wears the OPQS colours as he is scheduled to join the IAM squad in 2014.

While Chavanel says goodbye to a team, Pinotti says goodbye to active cycling altogether as he pulls the curtain on his active career to pick up a training role on the BMC Racing Team.

Other riders for the 57 km elite men's race include the following: Cameron Wurf (Cannondale), Lieuwe Westra (Vacansoleil-DCM), Gustav Larsson (IAM Cycling), Jérémy Roy (FDJ), Johan Le Bon (FDJ), Bryan Coquard (Europcar), Bryan Nauleau (Europcar), Angelo Tulik (Europcar), Olivier Kaisen (Lotto-Belisol), and Romain Lemarchand (Cofidis).

This year is the 32nd edition of the time trial and the organisers have designed a new course that includes the Le Mont des Alouettes climb that hosted the finish of the opening stage of the 2011 Tour de France which was won by Philippe Gilbert.
