Dan Martin was the big loser in the windy stage 5 of the Volta a Catalunya when he was dropped in the crosswinds and dropped out of contention for the overall win.

"We're happy that Tom [Danielson] retains the KOM jersey on another tough day. The team was riding great but we had some bad luck when Andrew [Talansky] suffered a puncture a deciding moment, which left Dan in the first group alone in the crosswinds. Dan ultimately finished in the second group and holds onto tenth place overall. The team continues to work well together in Catalunya, and we're looking forward to the last two stages," Cannondale sports direcor Johnny Weltz said.
