Tony Martin's contract with Omega Pharma-Quick Step expires at the end of the season and the time trial world champion is in search of a three-year deal that he hopes to sign within the next three weeks. German media report that Garmin-Sharp and Sky are among the favourites to secure the signature of the TT specialist.
Tony Martin has been riding for the Omega Pharma-Quick Step team since the HTC-Highroad team folded at the end of the 2011 season but his contract is coming to an end at the end of the season. With his current team being built around Michal Kwiatkowski and Mark Cavendish, the time trial world champion may have limited options if he stays where he is, and he now wants to clarify his future within the next few weeks.
Martin tells General Anzeiger that he is in search of a three-year contract with "a credible, solid team with a clear sporting direction" but he refuses to mention any names. His big goal is the time trial at the Rio Olympics and he wants a team that will fully support his quest to win a gold medal in the event.
The German paper reports that Garmin-Sharp and Sky are among the favourites to sign the world champion but an extension of his current contract is also an option. Reportedly, he is asking for a yearly salary of 2 million Euros and will also try to bring manager Rolf Aldag and team doctor Helge Riepenhof with him if he signs with a new team.
On Saturday, Martin will start the Tour de France.
