For the second time in this year's Tour de France, Luis Angel Mate was on the attack in yesterday's stage of the Tour de France. The Spaniard hoped that the sprinters would be tired after a hard day on the cobbles but came away from the day only with the red dossard for most aggressive rider.
Luis Angel Mate is known as one of the most aggressive riders of the peloton and he has done nothing to change his reputation in the early part of the Tour de France. Yesterday he was on the attack for the second time but like in stage 4 he was brought back before the finish.
Mate was rewarded with the most aggressive rider award but his objective had been to go for the stage win. With a hard day on the cobbles in their legs, he was convinced that the sprinters would have been tired.
"It was a nice day," he said. "It's something great to be at the front of the world's biggest race. Of course, I tried my luck for winning and I thought it was feasible because the sprinters were likely to be tired after what we experienced yesterday. However, it's in my spirit to attack so I'll keep trying.”
