Russian rider Denis Menchov, who last raced for Katusha at the 2013 Volta a Catalunya, has been stripped of his results from his final three Tour de France appearances, 2009, 2010 and 2012.
While Menchov was fairly anonymous in the 2009 and 2012 Tour’s, he finished second in the 2010 edition behind Andy Schleck after previous winner Alberto Contador was disqualified.
The news of Menchov’s stripping was just one of many in a summary of doping cases published on July 10 by the UCI. Other bans included life for Lance Armstrong and Danilo Di Luca.
Menchov has been banned for adverse biological passport findings along with Carlos Barredo, Leif Hoste and Leonardo Bertagnoli. However, only the final 3 men had their bans announced publicly.
Menchov’s ban ends on April 9 2015, and there was no date for the finding of the adverse finding.
Interestingly, he was not stripped of his 2009 Giro d’Italia win.
