The Druivencross in Overijse ended the first part of the cyclocross season. In the next days, many riders are leaving Belgium to prepare for the busy Christmas season but Telenet-Fidea have decided to stay in Belgium.
While many riders - including Sven Nys - will travel to Spain, Telenet-Fidea will keep the cross riders at home. "We will go on a training camp in the Flemish Ardennes," leader Tom Meeusen who won in Overijse, tells Sporza. "Here you can also do a good work."
"Last year I did not have a good experience with a training camp in Spain in December. That's why I now just want to stay in Belgium. I will benefit more from just finishing the right training and not taking any chances with temperature differences."
According to Meeusen, it is not a financial issue. "Our U23 riders will go to Spain," he says. "But we have consciously chosen Belgium.
"You can also work perfectly in the rain for two or three hours and do some laps on the track. So I just want to keep my rhythm and next weekend I will will do the races in Antwerp and Mol. That is the best solution for me.
