After several near-misses, Tom Meeusen finally got everything right when he won today's Superprestige race in Ruddervoorde. By doing so, he added his name to the long list of riders that have won races in recent weeks.
Tom Meeusen (Telenet-Fidea) has finally taken his win. After victories for Sven Nys, Klaas Vantornout,Wout Van Aert, Kevin Pauwels and Lars van der Haar in recent weeks, he has now joined them. "In the past few weeks, it seems that everyone has won at some point," he told Het Nieuwsblad after the Superprestige race in Ruddervoorde. "I am glad that I am now also on that list of winners."
At the presentation of his Telenet-Fidea team, Meeusen had had high expectations and wanted to start the season on a high note.
"That didn't work out very well," he says. "The level was quite high and I was not at 100%. You really have to be at your best to beat the others."
In recent weeks he took several places of honor, fifth in the Koppenbergcross, fourth in Zonhoven and fifth in Valkenburg, but he was never on podium.
"Gradually I will get closer," he said pretty frustrated last week and today he finally got things right.
"I am delighted with this victory," he said after the race. "This feels good. To win the other cross races, you really need to be at your best but here in Ruddervoorde you can also win at 99% because because it is a cross where technique and tactics are also important. In the end, I had some fear in the sand section and I hoped that I would not make any mistakes. Luckily I succeeded. This victory means a lot to me and gives me confidence for the coming weeks."
