Tom Meeusen finished second yesterday after a very strong race. The 26-year old rider from Essen was satisfied, but also frustrated that he missed out on the highest podium spot once again this year.
Meeusen told Sporza reporters that he made contact with a supporter in the first round, hence why it took him a while before he showed up in the front of the race. In the last round he made another small mistake.
“Rob Peeters totally surprised me in the last round with his attack. That’s why I ended up in fourth place and couldn’t respond fast enough when Klaas Vantornout went.”
This was Meeusen’s twelfth podium spot this season, yet he only managed to win twice. The Telenet – Fidea rider shared his frustration with the Sporza audience.
“I have always ended up losing to Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert. Now I finally beat van Aert and then there comes Klaas out of nowhere.”
