Tom Meeusen was the defending champion at the Druivencross in Overijse but this year he had to settle for third.
"I would like to have been on the honor roll again," he told Het Nieuwsblad, "but there was little to be done against Mathieu. In the beginning it was good for me, but when Mathieu came back and started to accelerate, I just came up short. I did everything to keep up with him. I gave 100 percent in the corners and on the climbs, but I did not get any closer. Then I had an everything-or-nothing approach as I tried to get back onto his wheel, but it backfired. Mentally is it a bit hard when you see someone ride away like that. He was really strong. In the end, I did my best but Kevin took second place."
