National coach Rudy De Bie has selected his final squad for the World Cyclocross Championships in Tabor next Sunday. Tim Merlier must give up his spot to Tom Meeusen who has been allowed to ride by the Belgian Court of Arbitrastion for Sport BAS. Gianni Vermeersch keeps his spot on the roster.
Last week, Rudy De Bie announced his seven riders for Tabor. Tom Meeusen was not on the list because his name is mentioned in the investigation of a doctor who is accused of carrying out ozone therapy.
Meeusen took the case to BAS. The Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport said that the federation had to select him for the Worlds. Tim Merlier has to relinquish his sport to make way for Meeusen in the Belgian selection. Gianni Vermeersch retains his Worlds spot. The 22-year-old rider rode to an excellent third place yesterday's World Cup race in Hoogerheide.
Laurens Sweeck who is also mentioned in the investigation, will be fighting for the Worlds title in the U23 race.
