Tom Meeusen looked like one of the strongest riders in today's Superprestige race in Asper-Gavere. However, the Belgian came up short against the Sunweb duo of Kevin Pauwels and Klaas Vantornout.
Tom Meeusen found himself in a difficult situation in today's Superprestige race in Asper-Gavere. The Telenet-Fidea rider found himself in a sandwich between Sunweb teammates Klaas Vantornout and Kevin Pauwels and was unable to match their perfect display of team tactics.
In the Meeusen was even passed by Sven Nys and so he missed out on a spot on the podium.
"All race I have fought for the podium and then I miss it in the final metres," he told Het Nieuwsblad. "This is really frustrating. I was not much weaker than Vantornout who won the race. Of course he and Pauwels played the team game very well. I was caught on my own in the front group. Of course that is very annoying but that is the strength of the Sunweb team. I have thousands of fourth and fifth places. I can not be satisfied with this."
