Tom Meeusen, Bart Wellens and Laurens Sweeck won’t accept that they have been excluded from the Worlds due to the fact that they have been mentioned in a doping investigation. They hope that the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport (BAS) The federation has given the needed permission.
The three cyclo-cross riders have been named in an investigation into a doctor in Rotselaar who specializes in the controversial ozone therapy. According to UCI regulations, they are not allowed participate in the World Championships and World Cups.
But Meeusen, Wellens and Sweeck won’t accept that fate and will take the case to the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport (BAS). The federation has given the green light.
Whether BAS can open the door for the three riders to the Worlds in Tabor is not immediately clear. In principle, only riders on the (reserve) list are eligible for selection.
