Tom Meeusen has gained enough confidence to do something beautiful at the Belgian Championships on Sunday. "I'm good in this shadow role and hope to maximize my performance," said the leader of Telenet-Fidea.
"The course for the Belgian Championships is different than the usual Krawatencross in Lille", Tom Meeusen told Sporza after his reconnaissance. "It is less smooth than usual: you need to ride faster, do the corners quickly and go at full speed in the drops."
"The course is more physical than usual, but that is certainly not to bad for Wout van Aert. He is the man to beat."
It has been discussed whether Van Aert will be able to make a difference on the circuit in Lille. "If he keeps riding, he can really put the rest under pressure.
"The others must have a good day and should continue to believe in the title. I hope they don't have to ride for second place if Wout gets a lead of 15 or 20 seconds.
"For him it is also possible to make mistakes. So it can be a very long race.
Tom Meeusen showed last Sunday in Leuven that he has good legs. "I admit that the best riders were not there, but I feel my good legs. I could accelerate which is important for this course.
"I worked hard to be at the start here in top form wand I think I'm in my ideal role. I am one of the more important outsiders. I'm good in that role and I hope to get the most out of my performance."
"I'm in the right flow at the right time," Meeusen concludes. "I've obtained all podium places, but hope to win it just once."
