It is time for the first seasonal race in Spain for LAMPRE-MERIDA which will take part in the Volta a Catalunya from the 21st to the 27th of March.
In the 7 stages of the Catalan race, sports directors Maini and Marzano will lead these riders: Matteo Bono, Davide Cimolai, Kristijan Durasek, Tsgabu Grmay, Ilia Koshevoy, Louis Meintjes (photo Bettini), Matej Mohoric and Jan Polanc.
Sports director Maini describe the targets of the team: "In our line-up we'll rely on a fast rider like Cimolai, on a pure climber like Meintjes and on six athletes who can exploit their skills in climbing and on the flat. That's why we think our team can be competitive in the 2016 edition of the Volta a Catalunya.
"Meintjes will have his first opportunity to fix a general classification as his target and he'll receive the support by Grmay on the climbs. We really hope Cimolai can obtain a good result in the Milano-Sanremo which will give him a high morale for the Spanish race too.
"Durasek, Koshevoy and Polanc have skills which will allow them to be in the main breakaways of the stages and to be ready to attack in the final part of the courses. Moreover, we're very happy to welcome back Mohoric, who'll race after he was forced to rest because of the injury he suffered in the Tour de Qatar".
