The Swedish championships were held in Åstorp this year, and a 15,8 km circuit was to be ridden 13 times for the 205,4 km road race.
The well-known professionals missed the early break, and when they finally took up the chase, it was too late, as the main group was 10 minutes behind. The riders in front were tired, but their advantage was enough for them to fight out the win. On the penultimate lap, Michael Olsson (People4You-Unaas) was the first to make a move, but didn’t get away. The other riders tried their luck as well, but only Olsson succeeded when he attacked on the last climb with 3 km to go.
Michael Olsson reached the finish with a 25-second advantage over a group of five where Petter Persson (Åstorps CK) won the sprint for second ahead of Håkan Nilsson (Burseryds IF).
Result:
1. Michael Olsson (People4you-Unaas) 5:13:30
