The former rider Michael Rasmussen has received a two-year ban by The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark. The length of the ban has been reduced because of the help Rasmussen has given to the Danish anti-doping authorities.

At the beginning of 2013, Michael Rasmussen admitted to the Danish anti-doping authorities that he had used doping from 1998-2010. The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark launched a case against the former winner of the Tour de France KOM jersey. The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark’s doping board issuedRasmussen a two-year ban from all sport. Because of the cooperation by Rasmussen, he avoids an 8 year ban which is the usual punishment for former doping cheaters.

“Michael Rasmussen has delivered comprehensive, essential and detailed information about not only his use of doping, but also other persons who were involved. It has been confirmed by the further investigation by Anti-Doping Denmark. We have therefore decided that his ban will be lowered as a consequence of his cooperation,“ said chairman of the Danish doping board Torben Jessen.

His ban was effective from the 8th of February 2013 when Rasmussen was suspended and will end on the 7th of February 2015. His results from the 25th of January 2005 to March 2010 will be cancelled.
