20-year-old Michael Vanthourenhout (Sunweb) has won the Kermiscross in Ardooie. The race was marred by a crash from world champion Zdenek Stybar who suffered a shoulder injury. Due to illness, Sven Nys did not start.
From the start, Michael Vanthourenhout, Dieter Vanthourenhout and Zdenek Stybar went on the attack. For Michael Vanthournhout the pace was too slow and in the second lap he got clear. Stybar and Dieter Vanthournhout tried to respond but failed.

Michael Vanthournhout had no trouble in the mud and could finish his long solo journey in the best possible way. Last Sunday the 20-year-old was the best U23 rider in the GP Mario De Clercq in Ronse.
In the battle for second place Tom Meeusen was clearly stronger than Philipp Walsleben. The cross was marred by a crash of world champion Stybar.
