With four riders in the top 25, André Looij just off the podium and Mike Terpstra as the winner of the mountains classification, Roompot Orange Peloton can look back on a strong performance in the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro. Tom Boonen (Quick Step Etixx-) won the German semi-classic.
Soon after the start in Ibbenbürn, Mike Terpstra joined a quartet of Germans who went on the attack. By winning all seven mountain sprints the 28-year-old Dutchman secured the mountain prize with the maximum score and also put himself in the spotliight in and excellent way.
"That was certainly the intention today. Next season I want to continue my pro career and that this is a way to put yourself into the spotlight. Furthermore, the shape is good. This gives extra morale for our Italian races next week," said Terpstra, who still does not have a professional contract for 2016 and is desperately looking for a new team.
The break of the day stayed clear for 160 kilometers until the final local lap in Münster. That was the time for part two of the battle plan of team manager Jean-Paul van Poppel: to bring sprinter André Looij into contention. Despite a crash in the peloton about one and a half kilometer from the finish they did well to support the talent.
"The boys positioned me well in advance and Wesley Kreder dropped me off just fine. It was quite chaotic, so I was not really close to Boonen."
Behind the Flemish superstarm Roy Jans and Niklas Arndt Looij, he had to settle for the 4th place.
"Again just off the podium. Obviously I had preferred it differently."
It was the 10th top 10 for the neo-pro. Wesley Kreder (17th), Tim Kerkhof (20th) and Etienne van Empel (21th) also ended in the top 5.
