Despite the negative opinion of the local authorities concerning inserting la Pompeiana climb to the Milan-San Remo route, the race organizers are keen to stick to their original plan as they claimed to try every possible way to keep the new ascent on the road map.
Last week, the province of Imperia announced that the descent following the Pompeiana is currently closed due to a landslide and that the road will not be repaired in time for Milan-San Remo. It was also reported that the quality of a road surface covering the ascent might be insufficient to be negotiated by the professional cyclist this part of the year.
The Milan-San Remo organizers, RCS sport, are still determined to keep la Pompeiana climb on the route of 2014 edition of la Classicissima, and thus they want to convince the local authorities to carry out some additional work in order to harden the road surface and ensure the passage at least for the cyclists participating in the Spring Classic.
