Belkin did a lot of work to chase down the early break in today's second stage of the Tour de Romandie as they were confident that Moreno Hofland could win the stage. However, the Dutchman got boxed in the sprint and could only manage 12th, leaving the team with a bitter taste in their mouths.
The Belkin Pro Cycling TEAM worked hard for Moreno Hofland in the second stage of the Tour de Romandie today, but saw the sprinter boxed out for the stage win. The Dutchman placed 12th behind winner Michael Albasini (Orica-GreenEdge), who scored his second victory in a row.
“That seriously sucks,” said Sports Director Erik Dekker right after the stage. “The boys have done their very best and it’s a shame that Moreno got boxed in. This was a missed opportunity.”
Dekker is trying to learn from today, however.
"After a stage like today’s, we should look for things we can improve on. We shouldn’t always be learning, but it is important for the next time, to know how to get Moreno in for the win. We’re going to put some energy into that because you need to learn from your mistakes.”
Hofland’s revenge will not take place tomorrow because the route covers four mountain passes in a stage which is fit for the GC riders.
“It will be an interesting day for Laurens ten Dam," added Dekker. “His form is improving. We will see.”
Ten Dam will have to do without the support of Lars Petter Nordhaug. The Norwegian didn’t feel well today and abandoned.
