Although a stage win was not achieved, the AG2R team obtained many places of honour at the Giro d’Italia in particular thanks to Carlos Betancur and Domenico Pozzovivo.
The pair of mountain specialists finished 5th and 10th overall respectively. Moreover, Carlos Betancur left the Giro with the white jersey of best young rider overall on his shoulders. Thus it was mission accomplished for the Colombian rider who spent most of the three weeks battling with Rafal Majka (Saxo-Tinkoff) for the white jersey:
"I'm really happy with my results in this Giro but also what the team carried out in this competition for three weeks. I was able to prepare perfectly for this event by competing in the Ardennes Classics and stage races such as the Vuelta al País Vasco. I stood at the start in Naples in an excellent shape with the aim of getting the white jersey and trying to do well overall. We can say that these goals have been achieved!”
