Sacha Modolo (Bardiani) repeated his win in the Coppa Bernocchi which is the second race in the highly prestigious Italian race series, Trittico Lombardo. The Italian who will join Lampre next year, kept his calm in a hectic finale and took a narrow win ahead of Roberto Ferrari (Lampre) in the final sprint.
“Today the race was more demanding than last year but my teammates were amazing and they did a great job to manage the race very well,” Modolo explained afterwards when discussing the race on the Bardiani website. “In the finale Sonny Colbrelli was great and he caught Pozzato who I thought could win the race. Then I was afraid to be anticipated so I started a long sprint with 200 meters to go. Of course I’m really happy but my first thought after I crossed the finish line went to Doriano, our masseur who died some days ago. This victory is for him because he was a fantastic person, the eighteenth rider of our team. We are missing him a lot.”
Sports Director Roberto Reverberi also stressed the team work and singled out Colbrelli for the work he put in, setting Modolo up for his decisive sprint.
”The guys did a perfect race and all were motivated to achieve this success. In the finale Colbrelli did an incredible work and then Modolo, as last year, sprinted very well. I’m very happy for this success which gives us a boost for the Coppa Italia ranking. Lastly I echo Sacha’s words as he dedicated this win to Doriano.”
