On today’s Trofeo Palma, a breakaway was formed and got away from the peloton. But Lampre-Merida wanted to test Sacha Modolo in the final sprint and railed the breakaway in. The young Italian showed that the faith wasn’t placed wrong, as he outsprinted Jens Debusschere and Dylan Groenewegen.
The five-man breakaway’s biggest gap to the peloton was only 59 seconds. The Lampre-Merida team never let the riders go and controlled the pace in the peloton all day. The five riders never had a chance to go to the finish line alone.
"Today, I want to thank all the team, especially Richeze, who has done the work of 3 men. In the last kilometre, we were only two men against more organized teams, but Maximiliano was able to take me to the last 300 meters, where I began my sprint.”
Modolo is very grateful and he also sends his thanks to Merida and the technically apartment of the team.
“I checked myself on Jens Debusschere (Lotto-Belisol), who was powering towards me on the last 20 meters. I must also thank my Merida Reacto Evo. The win wasn’t possible without it. When a sprint is so close, as it was today, it is very essential to rely on your material. Since I arrived on Lampre-Merida, I can say that I’m having the technology on my side.”
