Sacha Modolo was the fastest rider in the bunch in the 3rd stage of the Tour of Hainan, giving LAMPRE-MERIDA the victory after two second places in the Chinese races obtained by Ferrari and by Modolo himself.
Today Modolo's opponents could not beat the Italian sprinter who crossed the finsh line ahead of Mareczko and Grosu in Haikou, 130.7km after the start from Wengchang.
Modolo obtained the fourth victory in 2015, the first after the success he obtained in Lugano in the Giro d'Italia. Thanks to the victory, Modolo moved into second position in the the overall classification, 1" behind leader Palini. His teammate Roberto Ferrari is 14 seconds behind in third.
"It was a perfect sprint, which gave me an impressive victory," Modolo explained." My teammates were perfect in leading me out, then I did not make mistakes and so I won: yesterday I anticipated too much and the headwind slowed me.
"The victory is important because it was a long time since I last won. I'd like to win more stages in order to close the season in the best possible way and to be ready for 2016."
Xu Gang completed the stage despite riding with five stitches. The Chinese rider involved in the crash which characterized the end of the 2nd stage.
