Trek Factory Racing has announced its line-up for the Tour de France with the help of the worldwide fanbase of the team. Nine select followers of the pinstriped team each disclosed the name of one of the nine riders for the Tour. The fan’s tweet got retweeted by the team and by the riders.
The nine athletes representing Trek Factory Racing at the Tour de France are: Julian Arredondo, Fabian Cancellara, Stijn Devolder, Laurent Didier, Markel Irizar, Bob Jungels, Bauke Mollema, Gregory Rast and Haimar Zubeldia.
The team will be led by Mollema who is targeting a third consecutive spot in the top 10 and hopes to have recovered from back problems that plagued him during the Dauphiné. Haimar Zubeldia provides them with a second GC option after having finished among the ten best several times, most recently in 2014.
Julian Arredondo will make his Tour de France debut and will have his eyes on the mountains jersey that he won in last year's Giro d'Italia and a stage win in the mountains. Laurent Didier will provide support on the climbs.
In the flatter terrain, Fabian Cancellara will lead the team as he targets the opening time trial, the stage on the cobbles and some of the classics stages in the first week. He will also be important in the team time trial where time triallists Markel Irizar and Stijn Devolder will be important assets.
Gregory Rast will help to keep the leaders protected in the flat terrain while much is expected from Bob Jungels in his first grand tour. He recently finished 6th in the Tour de Suisse and will be targeting breakaways in the hard stages and the opening time trial.
