Only one more stage before the peloton is heading to Madrid and make it’s once again a mountain stage. In stage 20 the riders have to ride 193.2 kilometres starting in the touristic city Benidorm to the last uphill finish in Alto Aitana.
Maxime Monfort shares his ideas about the upcoming mountain stage and the winner of this Vuelta a España.
"It’s true that today’s stage won’t give the escapees too much space but I do want to try to get into the breakaway. I have nothing to lose! I’m not very happy with my performances in this Vuelta because I haven’t managed to get in the break. I’m rather disappointed. I thought I would be able to do better. Anyway, I’m right where I deserve to be and it’s pretty good considered that I haven’t been part of an early attack that led to the finish. It is a pity that Bart De Clercq crashed so early in the Vuelta, we could have been a nice duo and it might have helped me too. In any case, I’m still very motivated for the stage of today and tomorrow.
“About yesterday’s individual time trial I can just say that Froome did an excellent time trial. However, in the mountains Quintana is just as good as Froome so he will still win this Vuelta. I do think that we can still expect some firework!”
