It is not yet clear whether Lotto Soudal can rely on Maxime Monfort at the Belgian championships in Tervuren. Monfort is struggling with the aftermath of a crash in the Tour of Switzerland. "I feel just like I have had a long night out but that feeling has been there for three days," said Monfort.
Last Saturday Maxime Monfort (Lotto Soudal) abandoned the Tour of Switzerland. In the penultimate stage he crashed. Monfort suffered abrasions and also complained of dizziness.
Three days after his crash Monfort has still not touched his bike.
"It's not that I am very ill," he told Sporza. "I can do everyday things.
"But perhaps I have sustained a concussion. I have had one in the oast. I feel just like I have had a long night out, but that feeling has been there for three days."
"I have to do it calmly, stay in the shade and not do any cycling. It's too dangerous," Monfort added.
Whether Monfort will be at the Nationals is therefore unclear.
"It is difficult to decide about it now. The entry list will be published today. For now, I'm on that list, and we will see in the coming days how I feel."
Lotto Soudal have had good news too because Stig Broeckx will make his comeback on Sunday. Broeckx crashed in the final week of the Giro and suffered a broken collarbone and a concussion.
"I have not had too much trouble because to the fractured collarbone but the concussion has been worse," he explains. "I have had 10 days off the bike."
But Burnley feels fit enough to be at the start on Sunday in Tervuren.
"It will be to get used to it again and I'm still not 100 percent. I start with little personal ambition and go there to ride in service of the team."
