Matteo Montaguti (Ag2r) was part of the breakaway that nearly denied the sprinter their chance to fight for the win in the final stage of the Route du Sud.
"Yesterday, I worked hard to stay with Pierre Latour and Hubert Dupont as long as possible," he told Directvelo. "I really went deep. So I was a little tired today in the final stage. But I was happy to be in this breakaway of ten riders. We could go all the way if we had cooperated better in the last kilometers. I'm leaving now for the Italian Championships and then I will do altitude training in preparation for the Vuelta where I hope to help (Domenico) Pozzovivo."
