Daniel Moreno faces a small interruption in his preparation for the 2014 after he was struck by a car while training for the Tour de San Luis in Argentina. Fortunately, the Fleche Wallonne champion escaped any serious injuries and will be back on his bike after a two-day rest.

Daniel Moreno is back in training for the 2014 season after taking an off-season break but the Katusha rider has got his preparations off to a bad start. While training for the Tour de San Luis under the Argentinean sun, Moreno was struck by a car but luckily he escaped any major injuries.

Moreno was taken to hospital for a full medical check up but no fractures or major traumas were found. Nonetheless, the impact of the crash had left his bike completely destroyed.

Moreno will now take a two-day rest without doing any training before resuming his preparation for the Tour de San Luis which opens his season on January 20. The plan is for Moreno to hit peak condition for the Ardennes classics where he aims at defending his win in the Fleche Wallonne, and the Vuelta a Espana where he would like to replicate last year's success of two stage wins and a stint in the leader's jersey.

Moreno has been known as Joaquim Rodriguez' trusted lieutenant but after his strong showing in 2013, his team plans to give him more leadership opportunities in 2014. Hence, Moreno and Rodriguez will do fewer races together in 2014 as Moreno tries to fulfil his potential as a team leader.

Rodriguez will also make his debut in San Luis.
