Yesterday Daniel Moreno showed his usuall good Vuelta condition when he finished second in the uphill sprint on stage 1 of the Vuelta a Burgos. Today he got safely through the easy sprint stage and is now ready to face Nairo Quintana in tomorrow's queen stage.
Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Burgos was a perfect warm-up for Team Katusha. The sprinter’s stage to Villadiego did not provoke any surprise. No changes in the overall classification were expected and changes occurred. Dani Moreno is still second in GC in the same time as leader Juan José Lobato. The sprint victory went to Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling) ahead of two Giant-Shimano teammates Steven Lammertink and Thomas Damuseau. Alexander Kolobnev finished 14th.
Five riders, Aramendia (Caja Rural), Pomoshnikov (RusVelo), Larrinaga (Euskadi), Niyonshuti (MTN Qhubeka) and Tedeschi (Neri Sottoli) colored the stage but the last fugitive, Aramendia, was caught at ten kilometers from the finish. IAM kept the bunch together and their work paid off as Pelucchi appeared to be the fastest sprinter.
"No problem for us today. We are already thinking of the stage of tomorrow," said team director José Azevedo.
Tomorrow’s queen stage brings the riders over seven climbs, including the mountaintop finish on Lagunas de Neila.
