Team Katusha’s Daniel Moreno finished 5th in the second stage of the 9th Tour de San Luis. The first mountaintop finish suited our Spanish climber very well, but the final climb of 4,8 kilometers with an average gradient of 6,7 % suited the small and light South-American home riders even more.
The current national champion of Argentina Daniel Díaz (Funvic) won ahead of Rodolfo Torres (Colombia). Both riders broke clear from a selective group that started the final climb. 24 seconds later Kleber Ramos da Silva (Funvic) finished third ahead of Eduardo Sepulveda and Dani Moreno. Moreno was the first non-South-American finisher.
"It was a hard stage, so I spent a lot of energy. But our team was really great today! We have only 6 riders, but it looked like we were here with twelve guys. Super job of Team Katusha. I am happy with it," said Daniel Moreno.
Stage 2 brought the riders from La Punta to the Mirador del Potrero over a 185,3 kilometers distance. Five riders were the whole day in a break that got up to nine minutes advantage, but their attempt was neutralized just before the final ascent of the Mirador del Potrero.
Dani Díaz, already overall winner of the Tour de San Luis in 2013 is the new leader. Daniel Moreno is 4th overall.
Tomorrow’s stage 3 brings the riders from Concarán to Juana Koslay.
