"I am disappointed. This is already my second second place in this race. A win would make a big difference to me. I am hungry for a victory, especially as the team did a very good job for me."

Dani Moreno finished second atop of the Valle del Sol, a 4 kilometer climb at the end of stage 4 of the Vuelta a Burgos (161 km).  Moreno went away in the last 500 meters but was passed in the last 20 meters by young Colombian rider Miguel Ángel López (Team Astana). Tiago Machado and Egor Silin finished 9th and 10th respectively. López is the new leader. Moreno is 4th in GC now, 30 seconds behind.

"I am disappointed. This is already my second second place in this race. A win would make a big difference to me. I am hungry for a victory, especially as the team did a very good job for me. I felt that I had many chances with this kind of finish. Michele Scarponi attacked in the last kilometer. I counterattacked and caught him. I kept my high speed and went towards finish line but that young López guy was well in my wheel and he came out of it to take the win," said Dani Moreno.

Immediately after the start in Belorado five riders attacked and stayed in front until 17 km from the finish in Pineda de la Sierra. Teams Astana of leader Luis León Sánchez and Team Katusha kept control over the break.

"We had trust in Dani Moreno for today. That’s why we decided to control the situation. On the last climb Angel Vicioso did a marvelous job by pulling extremely hard. When Scarponi attacked in the last kilometer it was up to Dani to solve the situation himself. He did what he had to do. Unfortunately there was López too. We don’t give up. Tomorrow we have new opportunities for Dani in the wueen stage to Lagunas de Neila. It was there that Dani secured his Overall victory in Burgos three years ago," concluded Team Director Claudio Cozzi.
