It was a good performance by Manuele Mori for Lampre-Merida, who lost Niccolo Bonifazio after just a few kilometres. Bonifazio has suffered from muscle pains and the injury got worse in the start of the race.
The stage went on with a five man breakaway with a large advantage to the peloton, but the hunt was paused a bit when a storm hit the peloton with hail. It caused a lot of crashes. The Lampre-Merida riders was also hit by crashes and among the riders who cashed were Ferrari, Niemiec, Modolo and Cunego.
The three times winner of Giro di Lombardia suffered a cut on the knee that did not prevent him from reaching the arrival in the leading group. The breakaway was neutralized with 2 km to go. Lampre’s sprinters Modolo and Ferrari was caught in the back, so Mori had a chance to try himself.
Ant the try-on by Manuele Mori made him go to the podium of the stage as he finished third on the stage behind the winner Hutarovich and Maikin.
"My form gave me very good feedback. This result is very positive for me,” Manuele Mori explained, “ I was in the head of the group with 1 km to go just after the last hill. I looked for Modolo and Ferrari, but I couldn’t find them. I hope they haven’t suffered from any serious injuries, so I can support them in later sprints. I decided to use my chance and I did it quite well.”
