On a quite demanding course from Skofja Loka to Kocevje (182 km), Italian rider Manuele Mori was 4th in the sprint which had been been whittled down on the 1st category climb of Strma Reber. In the front group, there were 35 riders and among them there were three Lampre-Merida riders, Mori, Polanc and Ulissi.
In the descent, 18 riders rejoined the front group, so 53 riders fought it out in the final sprint.
“I succeeded in doing the climb of Strma Reber without spending too much energy and in the final part I received help from Ulissi and Polanc," Mori explained. "In the sprint, I chose to follow the wheel of Appollonio, who seemed to me the fastest rider of the front group; unfortunately he was tired so he could not be competitive as I expected. I tried to react to this situation, but it was too late to try to change the situation."
Mori obtained the 4th position, being beaten by winner De Negri, Parriniello (2nd) and Ponzi (3rd). In the overall classification, Ulissi is still 3rd (+2″) and Polanc is 11th (+12″).
