Stijn Devolder still has no team for 2017. Trek Segafredo have made it clear that the 37-year-old Belgian will not get a new contract. The experienced classics rider remains hopeful and is fully committed to another year in the pro peloton. "I take it as it comes," he told Het Nieuwsblad.
"I was in Canada when I was informed by letter that my team no longer wants to rely on my services," Devolder told. "That's just the rule. I think I've done what was asked of me and what I was paid fot. That was to support Fabian Cancellara as good as possible. In his races, I was yet again the last man of my team in the finales."
Despite Cancellara’s retirement and the letter he received from Trek Segafredo, Devolder still holds the door open for the US team. "Maybe we can still come to terms with Trek Segafredo. If not, we will part ways as friends. Sports director Dirk Demol always did his best for me,” said the former winner of the Tour of Flanders.
"I take it as it comes," the triple Belgian champion added. "On Monday night I received a call from an interested team and it appeals to me. Which team? Sorry, I can’t tell that. I hope to reach an agreement quickly.
"I know I'm not worn out. I have another season in the legs. I hope to reach an agreement by early November. Then I start will start he training with a view to the new season. I'm not done with this job. I am one hundred percent motivated to ride again," said Devolder.
