Manager Eusebio Unzué has confirmed the Movistar Team's 11-man shortlist for the 98th Giro d'Italia, starting on May 9th. A young, strong group will see the telephone squad take on the big challenge of the Corsa Rosa after the Blues' overall victory with Nairo Quintana in 2014.
Beñat Intxausti, Ion Izagirre and Juanjo Lobato are the three leading names of a roster whose last six places will be contested by eight riders: Andrey Amador, Igor Antón, Eros Capecchi, Rubén Fernández, Jesús Herrada, Javi Moreno, Dayer Quintana and Giovanni Visconti. The official, 9-man group will be announced after the Vuelta a Asturias and the Tour de Romandie.
Alejandro Valverde and Nairo Quintana are set to lead the team in both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana and this has opened the door for the youngsters in the Italian grand tour. Intxausti will return to the race where he finished in the top 10, wore the leader's jersey and won a stage 2 years ago while Izagirre will be riding for GC in a grand tour for the first time, having previously won a stage in the race. Lobato will target success in the sprints, especially on the lumpier days.
